| In the wild
this species can be found in the coppice of mixed forests in 1500 to 3000
m above sea level. This species is a small twining plant, that can reach a size of about 1 m. The leaves have a length of about 4 to 15 cm and are 1 to 6 cm wide, they are slightly coverd with downy haires. The flowers appear in July to August, they stand in inflorescences of up to eight flowers, they are brownish pink, the petals are amber-coloured to golden yellow. In China this species is called Xi zang diao deng hua. In Nepal the species is known by several names, e.g. Ban semi, Bansemilahara, Bhirke lahara, Mirke lahara, Mirkelahra or Mirkey laharo. The bark of this plant is used here, comminuted to a paste or pulver, to redce the level of the blood sugar. Also from the bark a juice is extracted, which is used in several ways, so to cure boils, pimples, but also cuts. |
