The overground parts of this species arise from a small subterranean tuber.

The stems are rosy 'breathed on'.

The almost non-succulent leaves are heart-shaped, 2 to 4,5 cm long, as well as 1,4 to 2 cm broad and have a conspicuous pointed tip. They appear on 1 to 2 cm long petioles.

The flowers appear solitary on the leaf bases. They are up to 3,5 cm long and highly swollen in the lower half, light with reddish brown spots, in the upper half the flower-tube is narrow and mottled very intensive with reddish brown to brick-red. The petals are yellowish on the inside with some rusty spots and reddish brown on the outside.
