In the wild this species grows creeping on the ground, the stems root whenever they reach the ground.
The leaves are very small and get dropped soon.

This species was apparently the first where the alcaloid Ceropegin was found.

The native names of the species are Jaathili, Jatili, Jutley (in Kannada); Bella gada, Bella manda, Bellamande as well as Bellamgada (in Telugu).
